  • Suited for experienced writers of flash fiction

In three weeklong modules, we will draft flash narratives with Christopher Allen, Elisabeth Ingram Wallace, and Sara Lippmann.

Week One — Rhythm, Structure, and Cadence — Nailing the Sound of Flash (Christopher Allen)

Christopher Allen is the author of the flash fiction collection Other Household Toxins (Matter Press, 2018). His work has most recently appeared in The Best Small Fictions 2019, Booth, and Gone Lawn. He has a BA in music business from Belmont University and an MA in English from Middle Tennessee State University.  Allen has been a teacher for over 30 years. In normal times, he is a nomad, but in these unusual times he makes do at his home in Munich, Germany.

Week Two – Writing Black Comedy, jangly with honesty, tightly observed fragments, and risky-friendly juxtaposition. (Elisabeth Ingram Wallace)

Elisabeth Ingram Wallace is the winner of the Mogford Short Story Prize, Writing the Future, and a Scottish Book Trust ‘New Writers Award.’ Her work has appeared in SmokeLong Quarterly, Atticus Review, Flash Frontier and other journals and anthologies including Best Microfiction 2019. A founding editor of ‘BIFFY’, the Best British and Irish Flash Fiction series, she is currently the Senior Editor for Flash Fiction at TSS Publishing. She has a Creative Writing M.Litt. with Distinction from the University of Glasgow, and was awarded a Dewar Arts Award for Fiction as one of ‘Scotland’s Brightest and Best’.

Week Three — Emotional resonance and restraint. When is devastation best expressed in the unsaid? A speedball of emotion, or where the outward emotion is all but wrung dry? (Sara Lippmann)

Sara Lippmann is the author of the short story collection Doll Palace. She was awarded an artist’s fellowship in fiction from New York Foundation for the Arts, and her work has appeared in The Millions, The Washington Post, Vol. 1 Brooklyn, Slice Magazine and elsewhere. Her flash has placed in  Wigleaf‘s Top [50] and is forthcoming in the Best Small Fictions anthology. She teaches creative writing at St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn and cohosts the Sunday Salon in NYC. Find her on twitter @saralippmann or at https://www.saralippmann.com
