Valerie Vogrin

Valerie Vogrin is the author of the novel Shebang. Her short stories have appeared in print in journals such as Ploughshares, AGNI, and The Los Angeles Review, as well as online at Hobart and Bluestem. A story, “Before the Shot,” appeared in The Best Small Fictions 2015, published by Queens Ferry Press. In 2010 she was awarded a Pushcart Prize. She teaches at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she has been an editor at Sou’wester since 2004. She is also Founding Director & Editor-in-Chief of Peanut Books, an imprint of punctum books. And she is completing – she hopes – work on her second novel.

The March Micro Marathon 25

We’re doing it again! We’re homing in on the micro: 100-word, 250-word, and 400-word stories. In March 2025 SmokeLong is hosting The March Micro Marathon, a 24-day workshop with a new writing task each day, peer review in small groups, 3 webinars, a reading and interview with Michelle Ross and the editors of 100 Word Story, and 3 competitions with cash prizes.
